Debate - Part One

by - 8:11 PM

Today, me, Pillai, Hani, Kevin and Jin Hua went to SMK Bandar Tun Razak (henceforth known as SMKBTR) to represent our school in the debate competition for the Pudu area :D we practically channeled our inner clown skills when we all squeezed into teacher's Kancil. When we got out, my legs weren't my legs anymore.

SMKBTR has really friendly students! I'm seriously sorry if I sound like some English text book but cut me some slack here, I've been listening to people speak proper English the whole day! We've been speaking in proper English the entire day.

Anyways, back to business. SMKBTR has really friendly students. Like if you go to SMKSM right now, the students will give you that Look and look away. SMKBTR students look at you like we're all freaking old friends. Sometimes I wonder if we really know each other lol they're really warm and welcoming :) though their school looks really old and small, the students' friendliness really made up for it. Plus, they have a soda vending machine. Me and soda, we make sense.

First round, we are against SMK Alam Damai. Our first motion: Co-ed Schools are superior to Single Sex Schools.
We could see that the first speaker of the opposition (we got government, thank GOD.) really hated Kevin. Cos Kevin POI-ed him and sat down before the guy could finish speaking LOL
We messed up the format. Hani was supposed to state the definition before introducing the speakers. Me, Pillai and Cik Adlina especially were DYING in the audience. Cik Adlina was SO pissed off lol.
the adjudicators (judges) thought that both the government and opposition got off track with the motion, but we won! Cik Adlina told us that we won by a little, but you know. better than losing haha
The first round wasn't that dramatic cos SMK Alam Damai were quite composed and calm.
And the fact that the first two speakers from SMK Alam Damai were only form 2 took the fun from winning. It didn't seem fair. But for fourteen year olds, they can speak really well. No offence, but look at the form 2's in SMKSM now -.-

After that, we had a break. Food was okay... abit on the meh side. Then we found out we were going against SBS and we were pissing in our pants scared. Cos they looked really impressive and confident and c'mon. It's SBS.
During the quarantine, we spent the first 40 minutes trying to come up with a good stand. Then we found out we were running out of time and I really felt sorry for Hani cos she didn't know what was happening and she barely came for meetings so I think she couldn't really understand the motion.
SBS has style. The way they speak is really Americanised and Cik Adlina couldn't stop commenting on their usage of slang. Hani was stuttering and she was SUPER nervous and she slipped on her pronunciation and stuff. The third speaker from the government POI-ed her and asked all bitchy "can you PLEASE speak more CLEARLY so I can UNDERSTAND you?" -.- me and Pillai were like bitch. Sit down.
Faye, Cheryl's cousin was there lol. She was so sassy. Regardless of whether or not I know them, SBS should've done more research. They didn't even presented their stand.
In the end, we won :D

WELL. Going against SMK Dato Onn tomorrow and you can see that they're not fazed at all. We're like the underdogs of the entire competition. Every time they say our school's name, they're like "since when did this school even exist?" and were all chill la, cos we were like a lowly public school.
We'll be competing against them in the semi-finals for the motion "Science is a threat to humanity" and the fourth motion which we sincerely hope that we get government for: "Negligent Parents legally liable in cases of Child Abduction" -.- we need to bring out our inner lawyer for that one. That is IF we beat SMK Dato Onn.

Wish us lucckkkkkk
